Dear WESO Head Coaches,
Welcome to another year of WESO! Whether you’re a veteran Head Coach, a new one, or a Head Coach from last year who is moving on to middle school, we’d like to invite you, and 2-3 of your event coaches, to a special meeting to discuss WESO’s mission to serve students in Washtenaw County and how we can all play the most effective role.
In August, the WESO Board participated in its first ever Board retreat. We put our heads together to plan for the next several years, and how we can, sustainably, continue to live up to our mission: To support science and math education and curriculum enhancement for elementary students in Washtenaw County. In the long term, we will be working towards establishing a model for WESO, and any elementary Science Olympiad, to follow, one that promotes a community of students and parents working together to teach and learn science, as well as maximize participation.
To achieve this goal, we need your help. We are inviting you and any co-Head Coaches from your school, as well as 2-3 of your more experienced event coaches, to participate in two group meetings to be held on October 12 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at Tappan Middle School. Two meetings will take place at the same time, one for the Head Coaches and one for the event coaches.
Discussions will include general topics such as communication, volunteers, coaches, outreach/support from WESO, workshops, and events. The meetings will be facilitated to help keep them productive and on topic with the goal of helping WESOdevelop and improve for this year and into the future. WESO organizers will be on hand, but will be mostly there to listen and take notes.

The meetings will be in the Cafeteria and the Media Center. Enter at the doors on the west side of the building and follow the signs. The cafeteria is on the first floor, and the media center is on the second floor.
Please RSVP here. If you are not a WESO Head Coach this year, and would like to forward this to your school’s head coach for this year, please do so. (You can still join us!) And don’t forget to forward this to 2-3 event coaches from last year.
We hope to see you and your coaches there!
