Welcome back, friends!

Another fresh start for Mustangs began today!  And what a beautiful day it was.  Old friends catching up, new teachers meeting their first student cohort, the smell of sharpened pencils and dry erase markers in the air...  It was a great day had by all.  We want to start off the school year confident, engaged and full of community spirit.  The back to school picnic last week was but a sneak peek of the fun times we'll have together this year.  To keep our events well organized, safe, and appropriate for the whole Mitchell fam, we need your help!  PTO hosts, funds and organizes almost every single event that happens during the year, from Fun Run to the Talent Show and the Staff Appreciations and field trips in between.

This year, budgets across the district have been cut so we are going to have to pull together to keep our community events going.  We especially need help with fundraising!  One fun way to raise some cash and connect with students are our Friday Drink sales.  During Friday lunches, parent volunteers sell lemonade when it's warm, hot chocolate when it's chilly for fifty cents.  PTO provides all the supplies but we need help to keep this popular and simple sale going.  Please register here:

We also have our first movie night coming up very soon!  From 6-8 pm on Friday, September 15 PTO is hosting a showing of Boss Baby in the multi purpose room.  Admission is only $1 per person, and if you volunteer, your students get in free.  We need help setting up beforehand and selling concessions.  If you're new to Mitchell, movie nights are always a blast.  We'll have pizza, nachos, baked goods, drinks, and of course-popcorn for sale so bring your appetite.  Don't forget, no children are allowed to attend without adult supervision!

Sign up to volunteer for our first movie night here:

Other upcoming dates of interest are:

-Curriculum Night, next Tuesday, September 12 at six pm.  Get some face time with the teachers, meet other families, and chat with PTO members:)

-September PTO meeting, Tuesday, September 19 at six pm in the library.  Discussions on events, budget and all kinds of other issues occur, and kids are welcome!  As are all ideas, thoughts, questions, and of course, people.  The Mitchell PTO encompasses EVERY SINGLE ONE of us- caregivers, guardians, parents, teachers, administrators and staff.  Each community member deserves to be respected and heard and we strive to make sure the Mustang PTO feels as inclusive as possible. No need to feel shy, come to meetings, speak up and help make the 2017-2018 school year the best ever for the students we love!

Hope you are all enjoying the first week back, and huzzah! to Mr. Hilton, our new Mitchell princiPAL!
